Make Up For Ever 25th Anniversary holiday kit

How cute is this mini Aqua Eyes collection?

It comes with five shades that are very very very wearable. I love the fact that each of these colors can be worn on a daily basis as a part of your day-to-night beauty routine! What I love best about this set is the staying power. After I swatched each shade on my hand, it took several times washing my hands to remove any traces of color (considering it's waterproof, haha), this stuff is going to stay exactly where you put it!

- 0L Black: How can you go wrong with black eyeliner? Especially when it has the MUFE signature smooth creamy texture? Make a clean line, or smoke it out, either way, this has you covered as long as you smudge before it has time to fully adhere to your skin!

- 21L Dark Grey: This is a new shade! It's a gorgeous smokey charcoal grey. This is a PERFECT alternative to the traditional black smokey eye liner. This would also make a terrific base for a smokey eye if you want your makeup to last for several hours with no worries about touch ups. This stuff does not budge once its applied and has time to adhere to the skin so be sure to smudge quickly!

- 12L Blue w/ green highlights: This color is not your typical run of the mill blue, you actually can see the green in it! It showed up as a shimmery blue turquoise on me when I first swatched it. The color reminds me of dc'd M.A.C eyeshadow in "Parrot" in Aqua Eyes eyeliner form! I think this would look fabulous with any eye color!)

- 4L Shimmering plum: Oh my goodness, attention: Brown eyed girls, THIS will probably be quickly become your favorite purple eyeliner EVER. This pulls out the golden hues in my brown eyes. I can imagine that this would look awesome with green, hazel, or blue eyes as well...but purples and greens tend to be my favorites when it comes to eye colors because they really make my brown eyes pop! I lightly dotted this between my lower lashes and it gave me a very subtle but funky effect. You could see the purple and it was totally appropriate for the day-time but can also be stepped up a notch for the later hours!

- 23L Champagne: Perfect pale shimmery highlight color. Due to the pencil form, it's easier to highlight the inner corners of your eyes than with a brush -in my opinion/experience. Another way I also like to give the illusion of a full eight hour sleep, is to trace underneath the arch of my brow and quickly blend so there's no harsh shimmery line. I'm not sure why, but I just look more awake when I do that.. I love to achieve an 'ethereal' look by lightly tracing my lower lash line with this, and highlighting my cupid's bow. I know technically it's an eyeliner, but I get many uses out of this pencil/color!

The holiday is just around the corner, so if you're looking for a last minute gift for a beauty junkie, this is definitely worth your consideration!

Check out this mini set on Sephora!

Armour Beauty review

Before I even started writing this review right now, I was flipping through People magazine (December 14th issue) and saw that Armour Beauty was featured! Apparently I'm not the first one to fall in love with Armours lip glosses!

[click on the pretty glosses to see the available shades!)
There are two formulas: opaque or shimmer so there's at least one or two (or three, or four shades...) for everyone!
*
Pictured left is "Cat Club" in an opaque finish. First, all I can say is WHOA this is an awesome pink! I'm obsessed with pink lipsticks and lipglosses, so anything pink is going to make me one happy girl! I think the color is strikingly similar to M.A.C's best-selling lipglass "Pink Poodle". Only with a better (in my opinion) formula! Anyway, this color is HOT. It totally made me feel like a rock-star...

Pictured right in "Dreaming" in a shimmer finish. I usually wear light shimmery colors during the day, but this gloss could be a pretty huge part in a "day to night" look. It's sized conveniently to fit in your purse if you feel like packing a pretty shimmery light plummy bronze-y color any time, anywhere. Results can always change though, based on your skintone and natural pigmentation of your lips. I thought that maybe this would be similar to M.A.C's lipglass in "Soft N Slow" but the two are somewhat similar, but I think, once again, I might actually like this better...

For the love of cosmetics, this gets my "kiss of approval". Most definitely, yes. I love this. If you love lip gloss or if you want to try something new, look no further.

Thanks Armour, for letting me try out your product and to share my opinion with the rest of the beauty blogging community. :) I think it's so cool that the lip glosses are each named after a rock song, clubs and icons! Thanks Theo, you're awesome!!

Color Club/Art Club review

Where have you been all my life, Color Club/Art Club?!

The holidays are coming up and I am going to be featuring some awesome brands and products to give to any fellow beauty junkie!

Rave #1: Color Club Lip Glosses (from L to R: Red Dress, Pink Power, Juicy Jolt, Party Girl)

-Red Dress: Ohhh my, goodness. If any lip product could give the appearance of Dorothy's ruby slippers, THIS is the one! It looks best over a red lipstick, or a red lipliner if you're not a fan of lipstick. However, I am a HUGE fan of lip stick so I have every intention of wearing this to holiday parties. As soon as I swiped it on my lips, I felt so much more festive and cheery, that says a lot coming from somebody who has been somewhat of a Scrooge this year! I think this gloss cured my "Bah humbug!" blues...
-Pink Power: This is an electrifying bright pink. Perfect for me, it goes with any bright pink lipstick. My lipstick arsenal contains mostly reds, corals, and bright pinks so this adds a perfect touch to the days I feel like rocking a super bright pink. I noticed this stuff is quite pigmented yet the color is still very build-able if you're nervous about rocking such a hot color.
-Juicy Jolt: What an awesome fruity color! The color reminds me of fresh melons/cantaloupes! This shade, like Pink Power, is quite pigmented yet build able if you don't want a bright orange mouth. You can blot it down as a stain if the light stained effect is more your forte. Or you can wear it in all it's bright glory (like I prefer too!)
-Party Girl: This is beyond gorgeous. It's definitely not a one dimensional color, it shows hues of dark berry, red, and a deep rosy pink. When I wore it in the natural sun, it looked like a gorgeous deep berry red with tints of pink. However, when I checked it in my bathroom mirror, it looked more of a red pink. I love colors that change with lighting, it's like getting to wear a few different looks all at once! This color is just so dang pretty, you can apply it opaquely or blot it down for a gorgeous stain.

*However, with all of Color Club glosses, I recommend wearing them in their full glory...the colors are too gorgeous to not show them off!*

The verdict: You NEED to check out Color Club lip glosses! The colors I featured are pretty bold, but that's my preference. This review only represents four glosses out of many shades that are so worth checking out! I love the formula as well! Why don't you see for yourself which shades catch your eye?

Rave #2: Art Club Nail Color

The mini-holiday kit is PERFECT for the holidays! This kit comes with three very festive and sparkly colors: green, red and silver! Also, a clear topper to seal in the color. The green and red are somewhat see-through but you can layer coats to make the color more opaque or you can use a color base in red or green and then top it with the glitter to really a pack a colorful punch! However, I have been wearing these beautiful colors for 3 days now and I haven't had a problem with chipping...and I didn't even use the top clear coat! However, it's always recommended because everybody is different and what works for some, may not work for others.

The awesome thing about Art Club is the various collections you can choose from, there is one kit that includes metallic shades (gold, bronze, and silver!) with funky crystals and jewels to add to top off your design or if you're really crafty, you could use the little jewels in makeup application. For example, I was trying out a "Teardrops On My Guitar" inspired look, and I glued the mini stars from the "Pretty Shiny Things" on my face with false eyelash adhesive.

Note:However, if you're going to take that route, always be careful and keep eye safety in mind during application!

Check out all the awesome nail colors for yourself, the possibilities for creating your own designs are endless!

A VERY special thanks to Color Club/Art Club for being the awesome brand you are and for letting me feature you on my blog for my readers and for reviewing these products!

Graftobian review (part 2!)

Graftobian has been around for decades serving artists who specialize in all areas of makeup artistry (beauty makeup, stage/theatrical makeup, movies/television to name a few!). In my opinion, Graftobian should be every makeup artist's go-to store for all makeup-related needs! However, you don't have to be a professional to enjoy Graftobian's many different products. Everything you need (for professional and just-for-fun use) can be found at Graftobian. Here is my first post on Graftobian for reference: Graftobian review- part one!I think it's awesome that Graftobian products are made *in* America, so this is truly an American-made company! Here is a list of some amazing Graftobian products. Just click the
links to find out more information about each product listed!

Lipstick
I have "Hot Pink", and recently purchased from a costume shop around Halloween "Red" and "Red Glitter". All I have to say is the color is opaque and beautiful. It can definitely be sheered down if applied with a lip brush. However, if you're like me and you love opaque lip colors, this is perfect for you. No dryness observed, no bothersome taste/smell. You don't even have to purchase a full stick of color, you
can also choose a cup (lipstick in dish form). You can also purchase palettes of cool and warm shades, speciality shades, and even a lip gloss palette! There is a "Super Lip Palette" available, this palette comes with 18 shades that can be mixed to create your own custom shades. In fact, a few of the shades have been inspired by M.A.C shades! The colors are saturated and beautiful and have very impressive staying power!

Setting Spray
I can't wait to rave about this one, it is the perfect setting to creme/liquid makeup! I held the bottle about 9 inches from my face and closed my eyes and sprayed once. Let it dry for about 30 seconds, sprayed once again, and that was all I needed to keep my makeup fresh! You can spray a few more layers if you would like to (after allowing adequate time to dry, of course) to create an extra strong "barrier" to withstand from humidity and any other possible factor that might get in the way of keeping your makeup perfect for hours! I find that it works best applied like so: first use a regular makeup base, apply your creme/liquid makeup, hold the bottle quite a few inches from your face, close your eyes, spray, let dry, spray another layer, let dry, and that should hold your makeup for hours and hours and hours! I keep this in my makeup bag at all times but in my experience, I have never had to use it more than the initial application because it has never let me down. I highly recommend this!

Luster Cremes/Powder
This stuff is super gorgeous. There are 24 possible shades to choose from. The colors are so beautiful and the creme leaves a slight sheen that is absolutely gorgeous on your lids. After intial application, you can top the creme with the coordinated luster powder and it intensifies the color in the most perfect and flattering way you could possibly think of. You can choose from neutral browns and bronzes, or if you're more daring, you could try bright blues and yellows and pinks and purples! It has very impressive staying power without an eyeshadow primer, but for extra long staying power or if your eyeshadow typically creases after a short time of wear, I would strongly recommend using your regular eyeshadow primer.

Pressed Powder - Blush
Wow, this stuff is PIGMENTED! There are 16 possible shades, I truly believe there is a shade for any and every skin tone! I used my E.L.F Powder Brush (similar to MAC #187) and swirled the brush on top of the blush like I normally would, and even one swirl picked up way too much product so a little bit goes a long way. That is one of the best things about Grafotbian products; only a bit goes a long way. That means tons of saved product, and that's always a plus in these tough economic times! I tried "Sunset Peach" and it brought my very fair neutral complexion to life! I don't think any other blush has ever made my skin look so fresh and radiant using such a small amount of product!

Hi-Def Glamour Creme foundation
I love the fact that Graftobian lists other brands equivalent to make it easier to find your perfect shade! This foundation looks gorgeous in pictures! I have a thyroid condition so I usually have to use a separate concealer on my cheeks to conceal redness associated with a thyroid condition, but words cannot describe how cool (and time-saving) it was for me to actually skip the extra concealer step. This covers wonderfully, and I love the buildable coverage! I highly recommend this creme foundation for anybody who needs light to heavy coverage, I think it's very very buildable!

Hi-Def Glamour Creme Super Palettes
These palettes are wonderful. These are staples for ANY aspiring/established makeup artist, and even for the girl who might need a custom foundation shade! I mixed my "neutral" and "warm" palette in the lightest shade available for a flawlessly perfect match. My sister used my "Warm" palette that held up for hours while she was at a No Doubt concert, and my mom has been regularly using my "Warm" palette as a foundation and using another shade as a concealer. Also, there is a pro-pack available! For $259.56, you can get one each of the available four HD creme palettes! This special deal also comes with a corrector palette! If you are an aspiring/established makeup artist or even somebody who would like to have every foundation shade available from Graftobian's Hi-Def creme foundation line, I highly suggest this special offer!

Cake Eyeliner
Although there are two shades to choose from (brown and black), the number of uses is quite impressive! I imagine that the cake eyeliner would also be a wonderful eye brow filler for brunettes or if used with a light hand (in the brown shade), medium to dark blondes! I like to apply this cake eyeliner wet with an angled brush, allow it time to dry, and then go over the line with a dry angled brush. It keeps the eyeliner in place and you can smudge it a bit with any eye brush with a spongey smudge tip for a natural or slightly smokey look that is always attractive: any place, any time. Also, you can use it to deepen the crease of a smokey brown or grey/black eye. See? I told you it had many uses! :)

Glitter Glam Liquid Sparkle
These are so much fun!!! For some reason, these remind me of the glam rock era and the old once famous club setting of Studio 54 in NYC circa the 1980's. I applied "Blue Blast" over one of my brightest pink lipsticks and added a clear gloss on top and I could not stop staring at my lips! The blue sparkle was beyond mesmerizing. Try it out for yourself, you probably won't be able to stop staring at yourself! I had an idea for a way to wear this, but I have yet to try it out... You could use (or make) your own stencil of a small design (a heart, for example), and then brush the liquid sparkle over the stencil. Hold it there for about 2 minutes, and lift the stencil and make your own awesome glitter temporary "tattoo". I think that sounds pretty cool and I can't wait to try it, maybe it's just the girl in me who loves everything and anything sparkly!

So to sum this entry up, Graftobian is wonderful and highly recommended to ANYBODY who has an interest or career in makeup. It's affordable, and the quality of the products is top-notch!

Eyeko mascara review

This mascara is a part of the limited edition Eyeko Couture line so if I were you, I would get my hands on this baby before it's gone for good!

First of all, I love the packaging. Purple is one of my favorite colors and I love the little silver design on the tube. It's so pretty and very nice to look at and it looks beautiful in my train case. Now I'll describe the actual beauty of the product result, rather than just the container...

I love the design of how the wand comes out of the tube, usually I find myself having to wipe off the wand with a tissue because most mascaras tend to deposit way too much product on the wand! But then when I wipe it, all that extra product gets wasted! However, when I pull the brush out, it kind of does that part for me but there's no product waste! It gives you exactly what you need and you can add more, but there won't really be any waste at the time of application. That factor alone made this mascara stand out amongst the others I have tried.

This mascara passed my 'side view' test. Before I continue, I should probably explain that little test I conduct of mascaras. After I apply mascara, I hold a mirror to the side of my head and I look at my eyelashes from a side view. "Magic Mascara" passes the 'side view' test. You should try it out for yourself the next time you apply mascara, it really does help. Sometimes when I don't have a mirror handy but want to see how my mascara is holding up, I snap a picture with my camera phone of my eyelashes from a "bird's eye" view. Eyeko's "Magic Mascara" did very well with that test as well. I highly recommend this.

Check out Eyeko's website here!

Until next time,
Ashley

Sp3ctrum review

I love when a brand not only delivers high quality products but also gives back to a cause. A childhood friend of mine had an autistic brother, so I really think it's awesome that 30% of proceeds from purchased items marked as "ɐ spectrum" go to Autism Research & Education! Way to go, sp3ctrum! Okay, now I'll get onto the review:

Oh snap, I think M.A.C pigments have some serious competition! I was convinced no other brand would tear me from my beloved M.A.C but I think Spe3ctrum might be my 'pigment' mistress...These pigments feel so light on your skin and can be used as a highlight, used with a damp brush for an eyeliner, an all-over wash of color on your lid, or even in your crease to add depth and dimension! I love the fact that even people with the most sensitive of skin can wear these gorgeous pigments, I know so many girls who have chronic skin problems and they want to wear makeup but most makeup irritates their skin. Of course, I was far from shy from spreading the word to them...and now let me spread the word to YOU!

You can browse by color family, and/or by your eye color!
Check out the full list here!

From L to R: Caution, Midas, Go!, Glacierz, Mocha Mojo

Seriously, how gorgeous are these colors?! Caution is a perfect stand alone yellow color, I love to use it for inner corner with my green eyeshadows. Midas tops Caution beautifully adding the most gorgeous golden sheen imaginable. Go! is a stunning frosty turquoise. Have you seen (discontinued) fan favorite M.A.C eyeshadow in Parrot? Okay, take that color and add about 100x watts of beautiful light sheen and there's your color! Glacierz is a gorgeous light blue that reminds me of Cinderella's light blue gown after a visit from her apparently stylish Fairy Godmother! It makes a gorgeous wash of color on my lid and pulls out the golden flecks in my light brown eyes! Mocha Mojo is a stunning color. When I first swatched it on my hand, I was in LOVE. I mix a pinch of it with my mineral bronzer and the effect it gives to the apples of my cheeks is out of this world, like intergalactic chicness!

I tried taking swatches of these gems with my cell phone camera because my digital camera broke, but that does NOT give it justice. If you would like to see some swatches, check out Niki's awesome review.

Check out Sp3ctrum ASAP! Put checking out this brand at the top of your "beauty to-do" list!

Eyeko!

Eyeko Magic Liquid Liner

This stuff is life-changing! Normally I love all cosmetics, but Sephora released a similar product like this that I wasn't very impressed with. LOVED the concept, but the quality wasn't quite up to par...much too runny for my liking. This stuff is awesome, and SO easy to use! You just simply wipe the applicator over any eyeshadow and instant liquid eyeliner! Make sure you load up the applicator so you don't have to keep dipping back into the container. The container is probably the prettiest shade of purple I have ever seen, AND this product was featured in "Good Housekeeping" magazine!
Check it out here!

Eyeko Mascara

This mascara is a celebrity favorite! I love the tube it comes in, it's fun to squish! I also love the applicator, it's definitely not like the standard mascara wand that can cause unsightly clumps. The wand is spaced out to coat every single lash, and therefore is one of my favorite things about this mascara. With other mascaras, it's hard to get every single lash and sometimes when you tilt the wand a certain angle, it gets on your skin and that can get pretty messy. Let's be honest; sometimes that is the last thing you need from your mascara when you're in a pinch!

So to sum it up, Eyeko = LOVE. I am in love with their moisturizing face cream as well.

Take 5 with Poppy King!

I have made numerous posts singing the praises of Lipstick Queen and how much I adore the brand. So you can only imagine my excitement when I was given the opportunity to do an interview with the creator and genius behind Lipstick Queen and author, Poppy King:

Besides being beyond gorgeous, she's a seriously driven business woman! She made her debut in the industry at the age of 18 after noticing the lack of matte lipsticks available so she took it upon her genius self to fill that void! I asked five questions that I have always wanted to ask her, and here is what she had to say:

----

Ashley: Hi Poppy! First, just let me say that you are my idol. I hope that one day, I can turn my love for lipstick and cosmetics into a successful career like yours! You have paved the way for so many, and proved that perseverance and dedication are among the main ingredients to making any dream come true! My first question is; how do you come up with such unique ideas for your products (Chinatown glossy pencils and the latest 15 minutes of fame pop art glosses, for example)?

Poppy: Thank you for your lovely words! You can do anything with passion and persistence.

Ashley: Where do you look for creative inspiration?

Poppy: I find my creative inspiration in the wonderful experiences I have with people, art, films, literature and words. I can find inspirations for new colors just by hearing something someone says to me.

Ashley: I LOVE the 30's, 40's and 50's era of makeup. The women looked so glamorous and exuded such confidence! What is your favorite historical era of makeup and why?

Poppy: The 30’s and 40’s are my favorite for sure because women looked beautiful and empowered with a sense of self rather than like cupcakes with frosty pink all over them. I loved the clothes in the 50’s but prefer the 30’s and 40’s for make up.

Ashley: In your opinion, what constitutes a 'Lipstick Queen'?

Poppy: It is an attitude thing. You can be a lipstick queen without actually wearing lipstick. It is about feeling strong and ready to participate in the world.

Ashley: What is your favorite 'look' to sport on a daily basis, and what are your favorite cosmetic products used to create your signature look?

Poppy: Red Lipstick is my favorite cosmetic in the whole world and I love wearing it just with a little mascara (Maybelline Colossal) and some blush (NARS Orgasm) and no other make up.

Ashley: I'm sure the life of a Lipstick Queen is very busy and chaotic so I will keep this short, but I just wanted to say thank you for your time! :)

Poppy: THANK YOU! xx

----

And there you have it, straight from the Lipstick Queen herself! I am extremely thankful that Poppy took time out of her day to do this interview with me! She is AWESOME!

Beauty For A Cause

[click the photos for official product details]

LUSH Charity Pot - hand & body lotion
($20.45)

Moisturizing is a part of a healthy skin care routine anyway, so why not make a purchase that not only makes your skin incredibly soft and supple but also goes to a cause to support animal rights, protection for the environment and humanitarian concerns? Every penny (except taxes) goes to this fund. I think it's an awesome way to get the softest skin imaginable and give back.

Philosophy Oatmeal Raisin Cookie - shower gel
($16.00)

For two months only (August 15th to October 15th), 100% of proceeds from buying this shower gel will be donated to Cookies For Kid's Cancer - an organization created to raise awareness of and funds to assist research for creating new and improving existing therapies for children with cancer through the very concept of local bake sales. Visit the Cookies For Kids Cancer website to join the fight against pediatric cancer! The official website for CFKC has details on how to do more than just purchase this shower gel for a limited time.

Philosophy Shower For The Cure - shampoo & shower gel
($20.00)

Proceeds of this shower gel are donated to benefit the Women's Cancer Research Fund. Being a woman myself, I am very sensitive to issues like breast cancer. One of my cousins had breast cancer, and one of my mom's friends died from complications caused by breast cancer. It is an extremely startling reality that the lives of many women are changed annually by breast cancer.

M.A.C Viva Glam - lipsticks
($14.00)

M.A.C started this campaign back in '94 and is still going strong several years later! Every cent of sales from any of the seven shades available to choose from goes to the M.A.C Aids fund - to assist men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS. Celebrities such as Shirley Manson, Christina Aguilera, Fergie and Dita Von Teese have signed on as spokesmodels for the cause. One of my favorite lipsticks of all time is Viva Glam I (pictured). I love rocking the retro red lip, knowing that my purchase is helping out those in need. A very justifiable buy, in my opinion. Also, the basis of its appeal for many is that there is a shade for everyone, ranging from soft pinks to deep burgundy reds. You can also purchase a coordinating lipglass, available for shades VI/VI Special Edition and V. Look great for a cause!

Cargo Plant Love - lipsticks
($20.00)

Since St. Jude is one of my favorite charities, I just HAD to feature this one considering $2 from every lipstick sale is donated to St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Also, the case in which holds the lipstick is made from corn. Therefore, it is very eco-friendly and greenhouse-gas neutral which assists in fighting global warming. Even the box is good for the environment! All you have to do is moisten the box after removing your lipstick, and plant it into the Earth to grow your own wildflowers. It's green beauty at its very best.

Splurges & Steals

SPLURGE: Stila kajal eye liner in "Onyx" ($18)
One of the (many!) things I love most about this eyeliner is the ease of application. This baby glides on perfectly, leaving behind soft black definition to my light brown peepers. Not to mention how amazingly easy it is to smudge and 'smoke' out a bit without looking messy or sloppy. There are several other shades to choose from as well, I'm looking forward to trying "Topaz" next!
To purchase:
Stila
Sephora

STEAL: Milani Easyliner in "Black" ($4.99)
I used this eyeliner during my junior and senior year of high school and recommended it to my friends who asked for recommendations on a good eyeliner. I also recommended this eyeliner to a fellow student in the girl's bathroom who was watching me apply my eyeliner. This eyeliner saw me through many times in high school and even for awhile after I graduated. It's not waterproof so there is a chance it may migrate to your lower lash line if you have excessive watery eyes or if you cry (like on my last day of high school), but it's a pretty good eyeliner nonetheless. It is a retractable eyeliner so you don't have to carry a sharpener with you. It's a very good basic eyeliner, if you find that regular pencil eyeliners sometimes tug at the skin. Definitely worth checking out for the quality, not to mention the very reasonable price tag!

SPLURGE: NARS blush in "Orgasm" ($25)
If you don't own this blush already, I am sure you have heard the rave reviews. This blush is one of NARS most famous shades of blush, they even created a "Multiple" makeup product (to use for eyes, lips and cheeks) in its honor. It's a gorgeous peachy golden pink that flatters virtually every skintone, you can use it as a blush (for very fair to fair skintones) or as a highlighter (for deeper skin tones). It's an amazing color that can perk up even the most sallow faces. Makeup artists and celebrities and beauty bloggers and makeup addicts alike have been singing the praises of "Orgasm" for many years. The well deserved hype and demand for this blush launched a mission to search high and low for more affordable dupes in these hard economic times, which leads me to my next featured "STEAL"...

STEAL: Milani blush in "Luminous" ($5.99)
One swipe of this on the apples of my cheeks leaves the prettiest peachy pink glow. Looks awesome in the daytime and pulls my look together instantly, whether I'm wearing a full face of makeup or even if it's a 'mascara, concealer, and lip balm' kind of day for me. This looks just as awesome for the later hours of the evening as well. You can easily take this blush from day to night - not to mention the $5.99 price tag! This is perfect for beauty on a budget. It has been suggested by many that this blush bears a striking resemblance to the cult favorite NARS "Orgasm" blush. I would have to agree... I can always expect quality from Milani. I have tried a few of their lipsticks and eye shadows, and I am VERY impressed.

SPLURGE: Lipstick Queen shine gloss in "Red Sinner" ($24)
Apply this gloss as lightly or as opaque as you wish. It looks amazing as a light tint of red, or for a full cherry lacquered look. Way worth the $24 price tag. This pot will last me for years, and I have every intention of purchasing when I run out. There are other shades available from this gloss line: everything from clear to black! The formula is a bit thick but it doesn't bother me because thick gloss = excellent staying power. I love the longevity of this, it wears amazingly well for HOURS and stays exactly where I put it so no worries of migrating lip gloss on my chin. The color pay-off is out of this world: the prettiest, perkiest light cherry red gloss. EVER.

STEAL: n/a
I have searched high and low for a more affordable dupe of this to feature in this blog post, but I am pretty sure that Poppy King broke the mold with this one!
-However, if you know of one, contact me so I can do some 'investigation' and feature your suggestion as the long awaited 'STEAL' of Lipstick Queen shine gloss.

SPLURGE: Benefit "Lemon Aid" ($20)
It's a well known fact that to banish dark undereye circles, use a yellow based concealer. Add a regular concealer on top for extra insurance against those pesky dark spots. Benefit's "Lemon Aid" has you covered. Dark undereye circles have haunted me for years, and I have piled layer after layer of concealer to cover them but sometimes, in certain lighting, the '2 shades lighter than my skintone' concealer just doesn't cut it. This product is also AMAZING for neutralizing any eyelid discoloration. I have hypothyroidism, and that makes my eyelids an unsightly color. I can't really describe the color in a word, because there are traces of purple/blue-ish, red, and even a bit of a yellow/orange. I slick a layer of this on my upper eyelids and below my lower lid for circles and it combats the problem just fine.

STEAL: Physician's Formula gentle cover concealer stick in "Yellow" ($6)
I love this stick, it's so easy to toss in my bag and go. Since I have dark circles that refuse to go away even after a full night's rest, this life saver cancels out the blue under my eyes and neutralizes the skin around the darkness as well. I top this with a regular concealer (just like I would with any corrective concealer) and I'm set for several hours. This also neutralizes the discoloration on my eyelids, just like "Lemon Aid". Physician's Formula also offers other corrective concealers as well including "Green" (to mask redness, birthmarks, blemishes) and "Light" (as a regular concealer, but also to apply over the corrective concealer of your choice).

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - newly released products!

You down with OCC? (Yeah, you know me!)
You down with OCC? (Yeah, you know me!)

Words cannot describe how much I love Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. The loose color concentrates are a worthy opponent of MAC pigments. I can't believe I'm about to utter such a thing, butttt I think that I might like OCC way better.

I adore ANYTHING with a blue undertone, and Spectral is no exception. It looks shimmery and white in the container, but when you swatch it or apply it to your lids or mix with clear lip tar, it's insane. I have never seen another loose pigment quite like it, much like lots of the OCC products. Besides insanely awesome pigmentation, the colors are beyond unique.
Also, mix it with Frigid and you get the most gorgeous shimmery ice princess baby blue ever. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Authentic is the most wearable penny colored copper I have ever seen. Most coppers I have tried tend to have a lot of red or pink in them, which can make my eyes look tired. But like with every other thing from OCC I have tried, I was far from disappointed. I love it as a wash of color on my lid, or in the inner corner. It's like MAC eye kohl "Teddy" in loose powder form with an extra dose of gorgeous copper shimmer. These colors are gorgeous!!

OCC was a huge hit at the IMATS and rightfully so. Everybody has been singing the praises of OCC lip tars, myself included. The staying power is out of this world, it dries to a nice matte finish but I don't notice any flaking like I have noticed with other matte products. I highly recommend a lipliner before applying lip tars so the product has something to adhere to and to prevent the possibility of 'bleeding' or 'feathering'.

These colors were just released from OCC:

Anime: (top row, left on hand and applied on lips with minimal natural pigment)
Seriously, how AMAZING is this lip tar?! When I first tried it on, I just HAD to take a picture to show people how gorgeous and pigmented and BRIGHT it is! It's soo bright and definitely catches your eye! When I looked in the mirror after applying, WOW. The effect was insane, I put a little bit of MAC 3D Glitter over it, and my lips were out of this world. I wear it around my house and it's probably one of my only makeup products that I can't stop staring at myself when I wear it. It's amazing, and I really recommend it to anybody who loves a bright and bold lip. Or even for somebody who rarely wears a bold lip but feels like making a statement. Look no further, this is without a doubt, the color that everybody needs in their collection whether they like bold lips or nude lips. It's THAT pretty. It puts every other hot pink lipstick/lipgloss I own to shame!

Fondue: (top row, right)
This couldn't possibly have a better name. While it's not a color I could probably wear and successfully pull off, this would be perfect for character makeup. The name makes me think of this restaurant in my home state of Michigan that specializes in AMAZING fondue. Focus, Ashley, focus...

Petty Beige: (bottom row, far left)
I could see this as a very wearable nude. I'm not much of a fan of nude lip colors, but applied sparingly (only a bit of lip tar goes a lonnngggg way), this could totally work for me. It's not too light to wash me out, but not too dark of a nude-y beige color to look awkward on porcelain skin. It has a teeny tiny bit of pink in it (or so it appears on my lips), and does have a bit of brown but not enough to take on a gray appearance (like other brown toned lipsticks/lip glosses I have tried). If you like nude lip colors, I suggest trying this out. And if you do, please comment and let me know what you think! :)

Botanical: (bottom row, 2nd from left)
I love green makeup on my eyes. On my lips? Hmm, I don't think I have the confidence or 'tude to rock such an unconventional lip color but sometimes I slick it on my lips when I feel that my creativity needs a boost while applying to makeup to other people. It's a fun color to wear in private, but I don't know if I could debut this one out on the town. Maybe one day. I also used to say that I could never wear a red lip or hot pink lip back in high school. And now reds and hot pinks dominate my lip products in my train case! So maybe one day, I could give this a go in public. But that day isn't today, sadly. If you're into character makeup and avant garde or if you have the confidence to rock this, go for it. Inspire others to make bolder choices with their makeup, and let the rest of us who are too afraid just remain green with envy for your confidence...pun intended. Even though it wasn't too funny, lol.

Hush: (bottom row, 2nd from right)
This is such a pretty baby pink. I could see this working as an everyday lip with a natural look, a pretty flush of pink to wear as you walk down the aisle on your wedding day, or even to compliment smokey eyes. This shade could work with any kind of smokey eye (black, gray, brown, or even if you prefer jewel toned smokey eyes!). This color looks amazing with NARS Orgasm and MAC Blonde MSF. It's the perfect light pink lip color to accomodate glowy pink cheeks. Highly recommended.

Conquest: (bottom row, far right)
This is like MAC's Myth lipstick and C-thru lipglass in one. This could be a better (and safer!) alternative to using concealer on your lips to mute the natural pigment - considering that some of the ingredients used in concealers are not meant to be injested. There is no trace or orange or brown detectable. Using a thin layer, it erases just about all traces of natural pigment...providing a base for any lipstick to really make any lip color pop. As a stand alone color? I personally wouldn't wear it, although I know MANY who would. It's just not my personal preference. As a lipstick base? Definitely.

Check OCC out if you haven't already! Makeup artists and makeup addicts like myself have been buzzing about OCC before, during and after the IMATS. If you haven't checked out OCC yet, I think you should. Like, soon. Sooner than soon. Like, now.

Cliche Cosmetics review

Wow. All I can say is that Cliche Cosmetics pretty much rocks. You can customize your own palette to create your own full look! You can buy pre-made palettes or make your own. There are so many different combinations to choose for the 4 eyeshadow spaces, you can choose: a lid and crease color, a liner, and a highlighter or you can choose four shadows (like I did in my custom palette). The bright colors are extraordinarily pigmented and show up beautifully in person and on camera! There are eight cheek colors to choose from: six blush shades, and two shimmer shades. I chose the light pink shimmer shade, it's an AMAZING highlighter! Finally, there are four different lip shades: 2 glosses, and 2 lipsticks. I chose the pink lipgloss, it's a beautiful bright pink with golden flecks. What would you choose?

Click here to browse pre-made palettes!

But there's more! You can also browse face products, eye products, lip products and Cliche Cosmetics even has a brush set!

I LOVEEEEEE the HD lipgloss. I tried "Strawberry". The color is sheer bright pink, instantly brights up my NW15 complexion - especially on a humid summer day! Not to mention the amazing smell. I couldn't stop sniffing the application wand!

Check it out! I know that my readers have great taste in cosmetics and really know a good value when they see one! You won't be disappointed by Cliche Cosmetics, trust me!

4 The Love of Couture shop review

A cute online shop called 4 The Love of Couture recently send me a pakcage of goodies. The shop offers couture items for low low low prices. They have brands like Coach, Harajuku Lovers, Juicy Couture, and more. They recently sent me a sweet little D&C perfume set, which was so nice of them, and they also sent me a some of their new Juicy Couture for Men line of body wash, hair gels, etc. They sent me the Bad English shower gel for men which I of course handed over to the nearest guy, who immediately loved the scent. I found the scent of the shower gel to be really nice also, it's something all of you ladies out there wouldn't mind smelling on your guy, thats for sure :) I didn't even know that Juice Couture was making shower gels and items that appeals to men also. That rocks! I definitely look forward to seeing whatever else Juice Couture comes up with.

I'd like to send a thank you to 4 The Love of Couture for their prompt service and very friendly customer service. Feel free to check their website out and see what other goodies you can find deals on. I especially love the handbag selection.

Julie Hewett Review - Poppy palette, Chloe lip lush, Belle Noir lipstick/lip pencil

Poppy Palette

Before I review this specific palette, I just wanted to point out that Julie Hewett has some of the cutest palettes around. Ever. Also, you can have your own palette customized! [click the text for information]. Perfect gift idea or even for yourself. Definitely worth checking out. Anyway, back to the Poppy palette...this is adorable. This is perfectly designed for the spring/summer months! The colors range from a light pink eyeshadow ("Flora") to a creamy pink cheek and lip color ("Jami") to a peachy powder that looks gorgeous on the apples of the cheeks ("Clementine") and lastly, a light pretty pink gloss for the final touch ("Mimi")! Add a coat of mascara and the finished look is so soft: ethereal and pretty.

Swatch:

Chloe Lip Lush

[This lip lush was swatched on my sister's hand, she has warm undertones so that explains the change in the skin tones from the other swatches!]
This is such a pretty peachy color. It doesn't wash me out a bit, which is a huge problem for fair skinned girls like myself. THIS is the perfect peachy tangerine gloss that so many have been searching high and low for to wear during these warm summer months. This is it, ladies (and gentlemen)! Your search ends here. I highly recommend this.

Matching Lip Pencil in "Belle Noir"

The thing I love about this lip pencil is that it looks amazing on its own or under a lipstick or lipgloss. I have noticed with other lip pencils I have tried, they 'tug' on my lips as I try dragging them across to fill in my lip shape, but that is so not a problem with this. I love love love it. A definite winner for me. Not to mention that I adore the color! Check it out here!

Noir Collection Lipstick in "Belle Noir"

This was love at first swipe for me! Ohhhh my. Perfect for summer. It looks amazing with my fair skin and my red hair and really brings out the golden tones in my brown eyes. Wow. When I was picking out an outfit for my friend's 22nd birthday party, I actually picked out my dress and heels based on this lipstick! Needless to say, it was a hit! Check out "Belle Noir" and the rest of the Noir collection here!

Just for fun: Find out which of the lipsticks from the "Noir" collection you are!

Seriously, if you haven't already, PLEASE check this brand out! It's definitely worth a try!

Lipstick Queen Glossy Pencils review

Honestly, what will Poppy King think of next? Just when I started to think the brand couldn't possibly get any better, it does. I love the sheer coverage of these pencils, you can use them as a base for a lipstick in a similar shade to make it go on a bit more sheer, or you can use them on their own and they look so fresh and summer-y!

I tried out "Thriller" and "Crime".

"Crime" is a very pretty hot pink, I was thinking it would be ultra sheer like described, but it actually shows the pigmentation close to M.A.C's "Big Bow" glaze lipstick (from "Hello Kitty" collection Feb 09)...although the wear and feeling of the glossy pencil is better than the glaze finish of "Big Bow". [Sorry, M.A.C!]

"Thriller" is a gorgeous pretty light red. This would be a 'safe' red for somebody who would like to try a red lip, but isn't ready to try out a super dramatic red lip! This is also great for a HUGE red lip fan like myself! It's a win-win pretty much, I don't think you can lose with this shade. It also happens to share the name of one of the most classic party songs of all time.

Swatches:
[Left: Crime, Right: Thriller]
{Swatched on the top of my hand}

[Left: Crime, Right: Thriller swatched on inner wrist]
{note: please excuse the monstrously large and prominent vein in my inner wrist!}

You can place your online orders here,

You can shop by region and find a store near you that carries this fantastic line!

Liptini/Nailtini = ♥

Dear MAC,
You have made my lips look amazing for the past four years I have been obsessed with you, and we have shared some wonderful times. I thought I would never find another lip gloss that could make me look and feel the way you did. So I'm not going to make this have to be any harder than it has to be. MAC, I'm sorry, but...your spot as my all time favorite lip gloss has been replaced. I'm sorry, but Liptini's Topper lip glosses stay in place and have amazing staying power, not to mention they don't feel sticky or tacky (like some of your lipglasses do). They also are so versatile and look amazing on their own or over a lipstick. I'm sorry, maybe we can still be friends?

-Ashley

But seriously, Liptini is now my favorite lip gloss brand. When my digital camera gets fixed, I will post swatches just so you all can gush with me on how amazing these products are!

Lip Liquer Lip & Cheek Stain - SoCo

This is a gorgeous coral stain! Corals look amazing with my hair color, so anything coral is bound to be a winner with me. The staying power of this stain is amazing, and the color is gorgeous and so easy to apply! If coral isn't the shade for you, there are ten other shades for you to pick from! You're guaranteed to meet your match!

Topper Lip Glosses = <33333333
[L to R: Cherry Fizz, Blue Flame, Crushed Ice, Vodka)

Cherry Fizz
Described as a "sheer juicy-red spiked with ruby shimmer", I completely agree. This is sheer enough to make your lips fresh and summer-y, but pigmented enough to wear on its own! This takes the place of my beloved MAC Lustreglass in "Venetian". The staying power of "Cherry Fizz" is better, the color is more pigmented and it's all around much prettier. This is my go-to sheer red gloss! This looks beautiful over pinks, reds, and corals. It also looks amazing on its own, which is a big deal for me. My lips don't have much natural pigmentation, so when I can say that I can wear a lip gloss on its own, you know the pigmentation must be amazing!

Blue Flame
Described as a "gloss with sheer blue-fire opalescence." When I first applied this, yowza! The blue fire opalescene really pops! This looks beyond amazing with hot pink/bright pink lipsticks. I love to sport this over Milani's Rose Hip and MAC's Girl About Town. You only need a little bit of product to get the full effect. That's another thing I love about Liptini's Topper lip glosses, a little bit goes a super long way!

Crushed Ice
Described as an "icy, frosted-pearl shimmer" lip gloss. The effect this gloss gives over lipsticks is out of this world. It really ignites the color underneath! I like to use this over red lipstick, the shimmery pearl effect looks great. If you have very pigmented lips, you could probably wear this shade on its own. My lips are very light, so I usually have to put this gloss over a lipstick.

Vodka
Described as "ultra shiny clear gloss". This provides the shiny and glossy look for your lips. This can go over any lipstick, or can be mixed with another gloss! I like to use "Vodka" and "Cherry Fizz" together! If clear gloss is a staple in your makeup bag/traincase, you have to get this. You just have to! Some might say "What is so special about a clear gloss?". I will tell you what is so special about this clear gloss! Like the other Topper lip glosses, it stays exactly where you apply it. It lasts and lasts, feels comfortable on, and the shine it delivers is impeccable! This has MAC's Clear lipglass beat by a milestone!

Sugar Rim
Described as a "clear gloss brimming with opalescent shimmer". The last time I reviewed Liptini, I gushed about this gloss and recommended that any lip gloss lover should get one (or two, or three) of their own! Seriously, for the love of lip gloss, this is a MUST. This could work on virtually any skintone, and the effect is amazing. All of liptini's "topper lip glosses" stay exactly where you put them, there's none of that unsightly lip gloss migrating to your chin! I have many lip glosses, but this one is one of my top #5 favorites, because it's so versatile and the shimmer is gorgeous. I see flecks of blue, green, red, pink glitters. I love that the glitters are finely milled so they're not chunky or super noticeable. It's very subtle, but in that context, the subtle shimmer/glitter is what makes it amazing. There's not too little, there's not too much, it's just PERFECT.

---

And now onto Liptini's sister brand, Nailtini...
[L to R: Kir Royale, Tahiti Breeze, Sugar Rim]

Kir Royale
Described as a "shimmering hot ruby red". I can see some orange tones in this nail polish. This color screams "SUMMERTIME!!" It's soo gorgeous, even my mom likes it! My mom is pretty hip for 50 years old, so that goes to show you that people of all ages can use this! This can work on virtually any skin tone, and I think that every different skintone could really bring out something special about this color!

Tahiti Breeze
Described as a "shimmering turquoise". This color reminds me of the ocean. The color is so rich that one coat shows up beautifully, but it's really an eye-catcher with two coats! However, one is enough for some! This, like "Kir Royale" is definitely a summer color. I could see myself wearing this in the Spring too! Maybe even year round, because I love the ease in which it glides across the nail.

Sugar Rim
Described as a "special-effect top coat to add a splash of dazzling multicolor glimmer". And that is exactly what it is. It's like Sugar Rim for your lips! This can bring a matte polish to life with it's unmistakable glimmer, or it can revitalize an already stunning nail polish! Putting this over "Tahiti Breeze" or "Kir Royale", I stared at my nails for nearly 5 minutes just admiring their beauty. Even after it was dry, I would catch myself trying to catch a glimpse.
